Cacapon Resort State Park

Hatfield-McCoy Trails

About the Swings

The response has been unbelievable: tens of thousands of posts that have been seen tens of millions of times, showcasing every corner of our state.

To celebrate West Virginia Day in 2022, the Department of Tourism teamed up with students at Nicholas County Career and Technical Center to build nine super-sized wooden swing sets where you can take in stunning views at some of the most scenic spots in the state.  

As a pilot project, one swing was placed in a scenic location or overlook in each of the nine travel regions. The swing sites were strategically positioned after analyzing over 100,000 social media posts from across the state to find some of West Virginia’s most beloved vistas. Today, more swings continue to be added and visitors are flooding social media with their #AlmostHeaven swing captures.

A Behind-The-Scenes Look

A lot of folks pitched in on the swing installation including city, county and state officials across the state.  In Charleston, students from the Mountain ChalleNGe Academy got a surprise visit from Governor Justice and Babydog during their installation.
